Breaking the Surface

Being in a bad relationship can be an awful lot like drowning. You have baggage tied to your ankles, and you keep sinking further and further. On some occasions, we are able to sever the ties that drag us down and break free. 

However, it's not over yet.

We still need to swim to the surface to recover, and to survive. The world around us becomes lighter and lighter as we rise up further. A mixture of desperation and hope wash over our thoughts.

Breaking the surface is the moment when everything ends. Although battered, you breathe in the fresh air of a new start. 

You are no longer drowning. 

You are alive.
